Guide to the Best Goal Setting Formula
All right, get out your pen and notebook. The best way to start brainstorming your goal setting formula is to write things down. Make a list of all the things you want to get done within the next ten years. Keep adding to the list everyday until it’s the way you want it to be. Perfect. But don’t stop there. Go into detail for each item on the list and find which ones you could actually do without, and put together the ones that belong in the same category. With goal setting you want to think big, reach for the stars. If your goal is to make $1million lets shoot for $100million, don’t settle for mediocre.
Then work out which of these goals you want to be done within the next five years, as opposed to the ten. Do the same with your one year goals, monthly goals and even daily goals. Stay on track with your goals and make sure that you do at least a few little things each day that propel you toward completion.
Every few weeks, go through your goals and see how much you’ve gotten accomplished. Set up a reward system for yourself that works, so that you treat yourself to something small and nice, every time you meet a goal.
When you write your everyday goals, be sure to put ones in that are steps on the road to your really big five and ten years ones. For instance, writing down, “In five years, I want to be a published author,” will get you nowhere if all you do for five years is stare at your goal. At one point or another, you need to actually get your fingers on the keyboard and start typing. So you can set a goal to write for like thirty minutes a day, and increase it as you get comfortable doing it. And when you finish your goal of writing, then you have to edit and edit until it’s fit for a publisher, and then you have to send out all your query letters.
The more detail that you put into your goals, the more chances you have for successfully meeting them.
